Two quick things when you install.
1) It downloads as a .zip. Right-click it and choose Extract All, then open the installer inside. (The zip just stops your browser from wrongly flagging the download.)
2) SmartScreen. Hawser isn't code-signed yet, so Windows may show "Windows protected your PC." Click More info, then Run anyway to install. This goes away once signing is active.
After installing, sign in with your Hawser account email and you're set. Hawser will start with Windows by default (you can turn that off during install or in Settings later).

There's nothing to install from a store. Open gethawser.com/app on your phone, sign in with the same account, and add it to your home screen. It's for the half of Hawser you write: a brain dump box, your notes, timers, and your reminders. A timer you start on one side is running on the other about a second later. It works with no signal and sends what you wrote once you're back online. Turn on sync in the desktop app's Settings and the two stay in step.

Honest scope while it's a beta: there's no day view, a note can't be edited or deleted from the phone yet, and your computer is still what fires a reminder.

A browser is one window with forty tabs in it, so the desktop app can tell that Chrome is open and not much else. The Hawser extension closes that gap: it tells Hawser which site your time actually went to, so a nudge can name it and a browser you work in stops looking like a browser you are hiding in. It reports the site name and the minutes, never the address of a page and never what is on it, and it only ever talks to the copy of Hawser on your own PC.

It is on the Chrome Web Store now, and Chrome, Edge, Brave and Opera all install from the same page. Install it, then open Hawser: it shows a card asking to connect that browser, and Allow is the whole setup. Nothing to copy, nothing to paste.

Out of the box a nudge lands on the toolbar icon, which is easy to look past. Three clicks put it on the page you are reading instead.

  1. Click the Hawser icon in your browser's toolbar, then Settings.
  2. Tick Show Hawser's nudges on the page I am on.
  3. Your browser asks for access to websites. Say yes. That access is only for drawing the card, and unticking the box hands it straight back.
