About Hawser
Hawser is an AI accountability app for Windows. It is built and run by one person, Jacob, through his company, Cook Impact Software LLC. Jacob's author page lists everything he has written on this site.
Why it exists, in Jacob's words
I lived on hard blockers, the kind that just lock you out or boot you off your computer once you have used something "too long." They drove me up the wall, because my life does not run on a fixed schedule. One day I am heads down working for ten hours straight. The next, I might sink ten hours into a video game, and that is completely fine. A rigid blocker cannot tell those two days apart. It enforces the same dumb rule and kicks me off either way, usually on the day I needed it least.
That is the whole reason Hawser exists. It does not run on an arbitrary timer that has no idea what your day actually looks like. It works off what you set out to do, so ten hours of real work is never treated like the enemy, and it only steps in when you have genuinely drifted from it. It adapts to your day instead of fighting it.
What one person means for you
- Questions go straight to the person who builds it: support@gethawser.com.
- Bugs get reported in the beta Discord, to the person who fixes them.
- It is an open beta: finished enough to pay for, and still getting better every week. The features page labels what is still beta or opt in.
How Hawser makes money
One way: the subscription, $25 a month or $250 a year after a 14 day free trial that needs no card. No ads, and personal data is never sold. Pricing and the privacy policy have the details, and the homepage lists everything Hawser looks at.
The name
A hawser is the heavy rope that holds a ship fast to the dock, so it can't drift away. Hawser does the same job for your attention. More on the word
